JAMES I'm driven by a passion for All Things Collectible. I come from a family of serious collectors, who helped introduce me to the world of collecting at an early age. My father is an avid collector of just about everything under the sun, and he would tow me along on the hunt to flea markets and garage sales, which fueled my passion. Together we would watch Antiques Roadshow, which captivated me with the valuations and history of the pieces. I was bitten by the bug.
I began collecting trading cards in the early 90's and would follow their values in a magazine price guide called Beckett. I slowly began collecting comics not too long after. In grade five I made a new friend named Steven Brown, who shared an interest in comic books and liked collecting action figures. Steven introduced me to two new magazines: ToyFare, an action figure price guide, and Wizard, a comic book price guide. It was then that I realized – even at that tender age – that there were profits to be made from trading cards, comics and toys. I then set about putting a value to every toy card, and comic I could get my hands on - even bartering with other school children. And then, the ‘Aha!’ moment. My young self realized that unopened toys in their original packaging were where the real value was to be found. From then on, each Christmas and birthday, I would ask for my favourite toys, but not play with them. As a born entrepreneur, I preserved them in their packaging and hung them on my wall for enjoyment and future investment.
Over the years, my toy collection has grown significantly, and includes approximately 5,000 action figures ranging from Star Wars to GI Joe, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, He-Man, COPS, Marvel, DC, and Simpsons, just to name a few. I also branched out over the years to collect antiques, stamps, coins, tie's, video games and other things I liked.
My unique childhood outlook led me to the world of business and investments, and ultimately, to found The Collectors Inc.
